European Union
A banking union covering the euro area, with single supervision (SSM) and single resolution (SRB) layered over national authorities. PSD2 made the EU the template for regulated open banking worldwide.

- Not a country, and the fields say so rather than sitting empty. ISO 3166-1 assigns no country code to the European Union: EU is exceptionally reserved in the standard so that systems can refer to the union, but it is not an assigned country code, and GLEIF's own country list — which follows ISO 3166 — has no entry for it while GB and US both do. The euro is a different matter: a currency is a currency whoever issues it, so EUR carries the ordinary ISO 4217 code 978.
