Data

Every dataset on Banking Foundation: coverage, pipeline, provenance model and licensing — with the honest limits stated.

The data pipeline

raw (public filings, regulator registers, operator documentation) → normalized (one schema, one slug per entity) → enriched (relationships: domiciled_in, regulated_in, provider_of_layer…) → scored (confidence flags; verified vs inferred kept separate) → audited (human review against primary sources) → final (published — this site and the API)

Provenance model

Every material claim will carry

Source · Retrieved at · Effective date · Jurisdiction · Confidence

In the current seed release these are carried at dataset level (seed-0.1 · 2026-08-28, public sources, Q2 2026 effective dates) with per-entity links to primary sources. Per-claim provenance fields ship with the first live-data providers.

Verified vs inferred

Facts stated by a primary source (a charter, a regulator register, an operator's documentation) are published as data. Anything inferred — peer groupings, layer mappings — is labeled as classification, and never mixed into the factual fields.

Current status — honest version

The current dataset is seed-0.1 · 2026-08-28: a hand-audited seed of the most systemically significant entities per class. Figures (bank assets) are approximate, rounded, dated and not real-time. Regulatory summaries describe public frameworks and are not legal advice. The provider-abstraction layer lets live sources attach per dataset without changing the API contract.

Sources & licensing

Sources

Bank data: public filings and regulator registers. Networks: operator documentation (Visa, SWIFT, ECB, Federal Reserve, NPCI, BCB…). Standards: steward organizations (ISO, EMVCo, PCI SSC, OpenID Foundation, Berlin Group, OBL, FDX). Regulation: the regulators' own public frameworks.

Licensing

The Banking Foundation seed dataset and schema are published under CC BY 4.0 — free to use with attribution. All referenced standards and trademarks belong to their owners; we document and link, we do not republish licensed texts.
